MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica (January 17, 2011, CMEx) – Is Jamaica preparing a case against Britain before the World Trade Organization?
It certainly sounded like it when Jamaica’s Prime Minister Bruce Golding spoke to more than a thousand Caribbean Marketplace participants at its official opening last night at the new Montego Bay Convention Centre.
Calling the Airline Passenger Departure tax (APD) “manifestly unjust”, the Jamaican PM said he and other Caribbean leaders had unsuccessfully lobbied the UK government to change the steep levies on travelers to the Caribbean.
Golding told participants, which included several cabinet ministers from other Caribbean states, he and senior legal advisers were looking at legal options.
“We are going to secure justice in this matter one way or the other,” he said.
