Past Conferences

To date, 19 conferences have been held in Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, New York, St. Lucia, Trinidad & Tobago where an estimated 250 journalists have traveled from across the region and the world to join in these CMEx sessions. Each of these conferences highlight and discuss major issues where reporters, editors, young people and development specialists interact over four days with representatives of the hospitality sector, civil society and government to explore such themes as “Multicultural Marketing: A Climate for Change.” Resilience to the double threats of global recession and climate change as well as how tourism can improve the health, wealth, environment and culture of destinations in a “climate‐friendly fashion”.

Each of these sessions offers limited training opportunities for Caribbean journalists:

  • To improve the quality of media coverage of sustainable tourism in the Caribbean
  • To increase the input of the media in the design of sustainable tourism policies, and highlight the necessity of tourism to the economies of small states
  • To improve the relationship between tourism officials and media operatives
